Reporting, especially in business terms is the act of compiling, sorting, reviewing and presenting data and information through interpretable means (such as charts, PowerPoints etc.) It is simply the act of gathering data, sorting it out, then presenting it via readable ways. To businesses, reporting is critical, as it provides transparency as well as the ability for insights and review within the company in terms of spending (costs), profits, growth and many more other key aspects within the business. Thus, allowing them to identify any discrepancies and possible red flags and so set out to fix them, giving the business potentially better growth and efficiency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


AI (artificial intelligence) needs no introduction. You\u2019ve seen it everywhere- from sci-fi movies to real life documentaries, or even just from the odd post on social medias. It is a term coined to define machines that possess intelligence. It may not be on par with human intelligence, but nevertheless, it is still demonstrative intelligence that it has picked up by itself, with little or no human input (aside from the building of the base\/initial stages).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But how can AI be integrated and how can it fit in with the reporting process? – well, as we\u2019ve said before, reporting is the act of compiling, filtering and presenting data (any sort of data really, be it growth data, market share data, GDP per capita data, average salary per area or information from within the company etc.). And that is exactly where the AI can fit in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. The AI can scour through mediums (web, from within the company and other places) for data within the parameters (keywords, dates, figures and more) and pick as many as it needs.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. It will then sort and \u2018read\u2019 through all the data it found and pick the best ones out via evaluation and such between the data.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Once the best ones have been picked, it will take the necessary information and present them in a way that will be easy to read, understand and evaluate.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. Or if you already have collected the data, you can simply feed it into the AI and it will carry out the rest<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    (This is just the basic rundown, the actual processes can and will be much more complicated than this)<\/p>\n\n\n\n


    One of the best parts of AI within business processes (such as reporting) is that AI utilises \u2018Machine Learning\u2019 (ML). Machine learning is often regarded a part of AI. What it is, is a phrase to describe the act\/study of computer algorithms enhancing itself automatically via the past experiences and processes it has done. It \u2018learns\u2019 from it\u2019s past actions and from the data it has interacted with.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Given this, it means that in reporting, it can become better and better at each stage, it can become better in knowing what information to gather. It can become better in sorting out all the data by what it thinks will be the best fit and it can be better at choosing which format to present the data in (charts, graphs et.) And it will keep growing and becoming better through each time it does the compiling, sorting and presenting stages of reporting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


    There are a couple of drawbacks, associated with AI. One which may be that it is very expensive to commission, set up and maintain. This is because it\u2019s no easy feat to create an algorithm capable of stimulating human intelligence and self-learning, it requires time and specialised skilled individuals. However, with the advanced processes it can do, as well as the many other benefits you can think of it as in investment. With an AI, your business will have a much higher chance of growing as well as having improved efficiency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


    Another disadvantage may be is that it may induce employee laziness due to them not having as much work to do. Also, another issue could be low retention rates as AI can easily replace some employees. However, both problems can be averted by simply \u2018toning down the power\u2019 (making the AI handle less work, giving more work to the [human] employees and such).<\/p>\n\n\n\n


    An advantage of AI can be that it reduces decision error as well as make faster decisions. It can reduce the workload placed on each employee, subsequently reducing the stress the have. This reduces the consumption of energy, money and time; all vital elements that a business needs, granting the business an opportunity to then divert more energy towards growth, ideas and other business aspects therefore leading to better progress, functionality and development within the business. Another advantage may be is that it enhances the capabilities of the current employees by working side by side with them\/helping them with their work, the outputs can be much higher quality work, more quickly and efficiently.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
